The ICB (International Children’s Bible) Golden Princess Sparkle Bible is by Tommy Nelson and published by Thomas Nelson. This book is a beautiful sturdy hardback. The yellow sparkle “Holy Bible” cover is really pretty and age appropriate for it’s targeted ages: 6-10 and the translation is written at an approximate 3rd grade reading level.
My daughter is 7 and going into 2nd grade. She thought the Bible was really pretty and she enjoyed the full color illustrations.
I agreed, they were really beautiful and well done. There are highlighted verses that can be found throughout and I appreciated those as well. There are no extra study guides or notes in the text though, which I think would be helpful and desirable in our next Bible.
This was, however, still a good step up from the Bible Storybook (which we love) that she had been using, she was ready for something a little more mature. This Bible was written in language that is easier for her to understand over the traditional KJV or NIV. There might be a few spots where translation is simplified too much (example: In the beginning, God created the “sky” and the earth, when it specifically mentions Him creating the sky another day, so why not say “heavens”?) Any way, it definitely wasn’t a big deal, but might be to someone.
As she gets older, I know that she’ll be able to use the dictionary and concordance a little more. They are very basic and simple, but helpful. Overall, I think this is a nice Bible for a young girl. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars and would recommend it!
