The Beautiful Word For Christmas to Bring the Joy of Advent to Your Heart by Mary DeMuth

The Beautiful Word For Christmas to Bring the Joy of Advent to Your Heart is a small hard back book with illustrated NIV Bible verses and devotions. This book is published by Zondervan. It includes 23 Bible passages illustrated in full color, 31 devotions that are specifically written for the Christmas season and activities to put the devotions into motion and action.

The stories were very short and simple, some were relatable, others were not at all, mostly because there wasn’t much room for character development or our family is in a completely different place or life situation. I’ve struggled a lot with knowing how to handle all of the consumerism and commercialism involved in Christmas as a Christian.

I thought this book was pretty and I had high hopes that it might be a great book for me, personally, to go through during advent (while I did more child-like activities with the kids). I felt like this book did give me some ideas and good practices, but I longed for a little more depth and personal connection. The scripture, specific questions at the end of the devotion and activity suggestions were helpful.

This is a nice book. I’m not sure it will be a yearly advent tradition for me, but it gave me a few practices of rest that I hope to keep up through the stressful season. What joy does your heart long for this season?

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Yes! I’ve been meaning to send you a picture, but you’ll get to see it in a few days! I’ve added the little battery LED lights to it since this picture. Jason laughed that it was a disco nativity, but I liked the addition. 🙂
