Time for Bed, Sleepyhead – The Falling Asleep Book was written by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. and was beautifully illustrated by Gail Yerrill. The book was published by ZONDERkidz and is primarily geared toward ages 4-8. It is a nice large hard cover book with a dust jacket, which I immediately take off and hide so that it doesn’t get ripped by all the little hands grabbing it. The illustrations in this book were really soft and cute! The colors were filled with lovely pastels and vibrant colors. Every page is covered with pictures that are interesting and help further the story and encourage your child’s imagination.
The book is written in language that is appropriate for ages 4-8. I say that because, there is a decent amount of text, so I’m afraid that a younger child may not be able to sit through the whole book. The book explains why sleep is important and takes your children through an imagination exercise to help them get tired. The imaginary story uses language that includes the children you are reading to (for example: “You jump in with…..”) It is a fun cute story with lots of characters (friends) for your child to relate to and it teaches your child that their imagination can transform into fun dreams as they drift away to sleep.
This is a cute book for bedtime. If you are someone who always reads to your child before bed and has trouble with them winding down their mind, this is a good book for you. It is also a great way to help grow their imagination!
