Make Your Own Face Cream with Frankincense Essential Oil by Simply Earth

IMG_0126When I think of frankincense, I think of Jesus in the manger and the Magi bringing him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. But I never really knew what frankincense was, where it came from, what it was used for or what it smelled like. I did a little research and frankincense comes from the word “franc encens” which means high quality incense in old French. It comes from the Boswellia carterii tree. When the bark is cut, there is a resin that seeps out, this resin hardens and is collected. The oil is made by taking the hardened resin through a process called steam distillation.

So after reading all about it, I was really excited to get to actually USE and SMELL Frankincense Essential Oil by Simply Earth. It is 100% pure and comes in a nice 15 ml. bottle with a euro style dropper built into it. When I first opened the bottle and took a long whiff, the aroma had spicy woodsy notes that I thought were pleasant. It has also been described as having a balsamic-spicy, slightly lemony, fragrance of incense, with a conifer-like undertone, but you’ll just have to smell it for yourself. Frankincense has many useful properties. The aroma can help relieve stress when used as an incense or bath soak (which I love in the winter-don’t use too much because it can give your skin a hot tingle), it can also be used in natural household cleaning, oral care, skincare and anti-aging, indigestion relief and it is also used to fight inflammation and pain due to arthritis. I have not gotten to try all of these out yet, but I have been enjoying my calming bath soaks. I really love this natural product and am excited to learn even more about it. My friend Kali Brown also gave me this awesome face cream recipe. Check it out and let me know if you try it!

I actually have all of these ingredients, but my skin is so sensitive that I am scared to try anything new on it. I’m hoping to get over that fear soon because I would love to be able to make things like this.
